Hi, Peru Gourmands, since Peru, I have been in Detroit, Jackson, Mississippi and Santa Fe. I leave for New York on Tuesday. That is my excuse for not responding earlier. I only had 278 new emails when I returned from Peru, but that number has escalated to 388 unanswered ones at the moment. HELP! Wendy, I promise to do my survey over the Thanksgiving holidays, when you will hopefully be busy with your second wonderful Taste of Peru tour. Oh, what we would give to come back. But the magic of our group could not be repeated. Thank you for this once-in-a-lifetime gourmet journey we will always cherish! Please send mailing addresses so we can put everyone on our christmas card list. We'll send everyone a photo CD of our fabulous EATING experiences. Hugs to all. |

What a wonderful trip this was. The variety was exceptional because the program included both the culinary and the archaeological. The chefs we worked with were talented and accommodating, and every morsel we ate was wonderful. The guides were knowledgeable and so pleasant to be with, and each seemed to go out of his way to make our experiences good ones. Machu Picchu and the other Inca ruins were amazing. The location of the Lima hotel, right across from the supermarket and within walking distance of the markets, was wonderful. It was also great to go shopping at the market with Cucho before preparing our meal. Overall, I rate this trip A++, and a real value for the money. Here is the survey, Wendy, I don't think it captures at all what a wonderful trip this was. The variety was exceptional. The location of the Lima hotel, right across from the supermarket and within walking distance of the markets, was wonderful. It was also great to go shopping at the market with Cucho. Suggestions: don't put late nights before very early mornings, especially the night before the Cuzco trip. I could have used a bit more free time to explore the places we stayed. Also, we could frequently have walked to restaurants - perhaps bussing us there made us arrive in a more punctual way, tho. It might not be a bad idea to poll the group - you did that with us toward the end so we could walk home after such huge meals. It is hard to imagine the trip without the 20 hour marathon - but some days had too much food - Cordon Bleu/Astrid comes to mind. On Machu Pichu day, the buffet was really awful, and I was hungry at night and somewhat traumatized by having to run the gauntlet in the Plaza Major. Perhaps a box lunch for the train and include dinner at the hotel? I could certainly have used fewer pisco sours - there must be other options. I hope I never see another one again! I would have like the cooking classes stretched over the week instead of all up front, but I thought it was a nice blend of cooking/eating and just eating out at wonderful places. Your flexibility and up-beatness were amazing! No matter what happened, you kept smiling and had a new solution up your sleeve. And you nand picked the perfect combo of people for an innaugural voyage! I needed the contact info earlier. Also, it would have helped me greatly to have had explicit instructions on who should be tipped and the generally recommended range. Not knowing how things work in a new country creates unnecessary anxiety. Overall, A++ muchas gracias. |
